About The Lamplighters
Now celebrating our 60th year, the mission of Lamplighters Music Theatre is to share our enthusiasm and love for the works of W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan through productions of their comic operas and of other works of comparable wit, literacy and musical merit. Our company strives to enrich the lives of current and future theater-goers with productions of the highest artistic quality, and to offer performance opportunities in the unique style of classic music theatre to established and emerging artists alike.
The office is located in SOMA, San Francisco. The regular staff team consists of a General Manager, Operations Manager and Development Director. Key artistic and production staff work on an hourly part-time basis. Volunteers, contractors and hourly employees are engaged for each production.
The Position
Reporting to the General Manager and to the Board of Trustees, the Development Director has overall responsibility for all Lamplighters’ fundraising-related activities, and for planning, developing and maintaining strategies to meet the organization’s financial goals.
Although this is a part-time position some weekend and evening work may be required.

Professional Requirements
Lamplighters Music Theatre is seeking an experienced professional with a minimum of five years’ proven success in managing a broad range of fundraising activities. Experience with the management and stewardship of individual donors, private and government foundations and the recruitment and stewardship of corporate sponsors is important. A background in the performing arts is strongly preferred.
The ability to formulate a budget and operate successfully within its constraints is important. The annual organizational budget is approximately $1 million, with a contributed income goal of approximately $425,000.
Knowledge of musical theater/opera/Gilbert & Sullivan is a plus.
Personal Characteristics
The ideal candidate is a dynamic, experienced, proactive fundraiser with a solid track record, who takes responsibility, actively seeks solutions to problems, is extremely well organized, flexible, positive, self-motivated, a good verbal and written communicator, able to juggle multiple projects, and able to deal pleasantly with a wide variety of people.
Personal warmth, charm, diplomacy and a well-developed sense of humor are highly desirable characteristics.
