- Arts Council Joins Arts & Humanities Month
California is often known for going our own way, but when it comes to arts celebrations in October, the state arts agency will be joining the other 49 states to celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month. In the past, the California Arts Council promoted a single day in October as California Arts Day. This year, the focus will instead be on the national celebration during the entire month of October, allowing Californians to join a bigger movement as well as have a larger time period--31 days versus just one--to celebrate the arts this fall.
"October is an ideal month to highlight the arts and humanities in California and nationwide," said Craig Watson, Director of the California Arts Council. "Schools can incorporate arts education projects into the curriculum during the beginning months of the traditional school year, communities can take advantage of temperate fall weather for arts festivals and events, and individuals can partake through their own arts or by seeing the first events of some performing arts organizations' annual season.
"The California Arts Council is proud to join with Americans for the Arts and celebrate the arts with the rest of the nation," continued Watson. "We encourage all Californians to participate in Arts and Humanities Month this coming October - and start planning now."
