California Arts Council Director Search Extended - Open Until Filled

Published: 05-06-2011

The California Arts Council is seeking a new Director. The Director is a key member of the Arts Council's executive management team, reporting directly to the Chair and Members of the Council. This position is an exempt state position appointed by the Council, and the position is open until filled.

Statement from the California Arts Council Chair and Search Committee:

"The California Arts Council's search for a new director is proceeding well. Stanton Chase, a national-level search firm, is leading the effort, which is being underwritten by the Hewlett Foundation, the Greenberg Family Foundation and WESTAF. The applicant pool contains a number of qualified candidates, and the first set of interviews with the search committee will be conducted in late May. We have received some inquiries as to why the application deadline for this search has been extended. The reason is quite simple, we want to be able to accommodate all qualified candidates who come to our attention, right up to the time state hiring rules require that we must stop accepting applications.

We are pleased to have an active and successful search process underway. We look forward to the appointment of a new director for the Council, an individual who will work with the members of the Council and the Council staff to advance the work of the agency on behalf of the arts throughout California."
--Malissa Feruzzi Shriver, Chair, California Arts Council
--Wylie Aiken, Member, Search Committee and California Arts Council
--Michael Alexander, Member, Search Committee and California Arts Council

The Director has primary responsibility for administration, oversight of all agency policy and programs, local, state and federal level interagency activities, legislative relationships, public information and Council support and representation, and actions requested by the Office of the Governor and Legislature.
