California Student Wins Google's National Doodle Contest
Monte Verde Elementary School in South San Francisco celebrates

Published: 06-16-2011

Seven-year-old Matteo Lopez of Monte Verde Elementary School in South San Francisco won Google's National Doodle Contest. His entry, Space Life, reflects his personal goals of becoming an astronaut and exploring space life. He wants to wear a space suit, fly in space, walk on the moon and make friends with aliens in other planets.

Although his interest in space may carry him into orbit, his artistic talents may carry him far in the imagination. Winning first the state, then the regional contests, Matteo succeeded on the national level -- beating students more than twice his age.

See Monte Verde Elementary's celebration of Matteo's win and hear from the artist himself.
